Sheep Parasite Control

drenchTrainees will learn the common external parasites of sheep, their life-cycles, clinical signs, methods of identification, treatment and prevention.  The workshop also looks at the epidemiology of the common internal parasitic diseases of sheep their treatment and control methods for each and the importance of avoiding the spread of anthelmintic resistance.

Learning outcomes:

  • Learn and describe the common external parasites of sheep; their life-cycles, clinical signs, methods of identification, treatment and prevention (Sheep scab, Lice, Keds, Blowfly, Headfly).
  • Describe the other common skin disorders of sheep, their treatment and prevention including mycotic dermatitis, orf and staphylococcal dermatitis, their treatment and prevention.
  • Learn and describe the epidemiology of the common internal parasitic diseases of sheep (coccidiosis, parasitic gastro-enteritis, fluke, tapeworms); their treatment and control methods
  • Understand the importance of avoiding anthelmintic resistance and best practice for use of anthelmintics, (including “SCOPS” protocols).
